Jennifer's Sewing Area - A Work in Progress

November 15, 2002

BEFORE: Actually, this should be DURING--the real before was when clothes, fabric, and sewing supplies were scattered over the entire floor. I didn't take pictures of that! But this is before furniture and shelving. The whole space is about 10' x 11.5', plus an extra 5 feet of wall space across from the closet that I could use for shelving if the rest of the room was filled. Just have to make sure to account for the sloping ceilings (or are those sloping walls?) when buying furniture, LOL!
Looking in from Melanie's playroom ("attictoys" as she calls it). The door on the right is a closet where I currently have my sewing books and patterns, and a bunch of old baby toys, bouncy seat, etc. waiting to be taken out for #2.
My entire stash! Plastic bins contain scissors, tools, etc. The box next to the bins is actual purchased fabric. Left of that is two boxes of scraps, next comes a box of clothing that could be cut up to make baby clothes or appliques (plus a few items to be mended), and finally a box of sorted baby clothes waiting for Melanie or #2 to fit them. The big blue bin is empty; haven't decided yet what to put in it.
The ironing board, obviously. But that is where my cutting table is going to go, and I'm going to get a pad so I can iron on the table and put the ironing board (which is very unsteady) back in the laundry room in case I want to iron something in the basement.
And the machines, without which no sewing room would be complete! Bernina 1230 sewing machine and Babylock Evolve serger, both courtesy of my dear MIL. Currently housed on a lovely card table, but I have better plans for that corner. Someday....
Finally, a view from inside the room back out to the rest of the attic. The far wall with the radiator is actually about 23 feet long, making Melanie's play area 8' x 23'. She'll never appreciate it the way I do, since I grew up in a very cramped home.
Stay tuned! The AFTER will probably come gradually. I already bought a cutting table from Jo-Ann's to reward myself for cleaning and organizing the room. Now to assemble it!
