Blanket for Melanie's Bed, April 2003

Pattern: none, just a rectangle with rounded corners
Fabric: Lilac MM 100 from Fabric.com

I made this for Melanie because she was still using receiving-style blankets and she's two years old. And she always wants a "soft" (meaning polarfleece) blanket. So I made this lilac fleece blanket 40" x 50" to fit her toddler bed. I put a butterfly applique in one corner--I made the design by adapting some free clipart. The edges are serged with variegated purple crochet thread in the upper looper--I loved the way it came out! In the third picture I tried to give a close-up of the serging. Of course, being a two-year-old, Melanie absolutely refused to even have this blanket in her room at first. Now she has consented to sleep on top of it, and she still wants the tiny yellow blanket on top of her. Oh, well, it's almost summer now anyway.
